Changing Chicago: A Portrait in Postcards and Photos

AIA Chicago, 35 East Wacker Drive, #250, Chicago

How Chicago has changed and adapted over the past 145 years is well documented through urban planner and photographer Larry Okrent’s enormous postcard collection. Using this collection, as well as photos from the Chicago History Museum and the Chicago Transit Authority, author/publisher Neal Samors and author/photographer Steven Dahlman wrote Changing Chicago: A Portrait in Postcards and Photos, which was published by Chicago’s Books Press in late 2017. Larry Okrent wrote the book’s foreword, and Chicago History Museum president Gary Johnson wrote the introduction. The book provides the reader with the many ways in which Chicago has changed from the 1880s to today.

Larry, Neal, and Steve  will introduce us to the book and discuss its creation. Books will be available for sale and signing at the event for $30, a discount from the standard retail price of $40.
