Concrete Connection Details, A Critical Element in Design

AIA Chicago, 35 East Wacker Drive, #250

Architectural precast concrete cladding requires connections from panels to structure to support and brace the panels. While the details of the connections are most typically developed and executed by the precast concrete supplier, the specifier should understand the materials involved so specifications can be properly developed to convey the project expectations to the precast supplier. Roger J. Becker, PE, SE, Vice President for Technical Services at the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (Chicago), will focus on the materials used in connections for architectural precast concrete.

Learning Objectives:

1.  There will be a clear understanding of the types of materials used in connections for architectural precast concrete cladding elements.

2.  The proper ASTM specifications will be reviewed for these materials.

3.  Use of proper material finishes for required durability will be reviewed.

4.  The role of communication through project specifications will be reviewed.
