Lean In Design Forum 2014: Achieving Better Designs with Higher Client Satisfaction
Drinker Biddle & Reath, 191 N. Wacker Drive, #3700, Chicago
Design professionals are seeing increasing use of alternative project delivery methods, including Integrated Project Delivery. These more collaborative approaches are encouraging inter-disciplinary project teams in the design phase and beyond, and reshaping the role of designers. The Lean Construction Institute invites you to a conference.
What does Lean look like during design? The LCI/AIA/P2SL Lean in Design Forum: Achieving Better Designs with Higher Client Satisfaction is the premier national event where owners, architects, engineers and construction professionals share knowledge, focus on innovation, and learn how to maximize value throughout the design process.
AGENDA
Wednesday, June 4, 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Cocktail reception to follow.
Thursday, June 5, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Tutorial, June 4th:
Wednesday’s tutorial session is for design professionals and others who need a basic understanding of what Lean in Design is all about. The tutorial will approach the topic from the standpoint of assuming little to no previous exposure to Lean tools and techniques. It will provide a broad overview of how Lean benefits the design process: What are the Lean tools and techniques that can actually improve the process and lead to better designs? This will be an excellent introduction intended to facilitate understanding in preparation for the more extensive discussions set for June 5.
Lean In Design Program, June 5th:
This daylong program will feature four 90-minute sessions with presentation/discussion and plenty of audience Q&A.
An owner representative will talk about experience with Lean in facilitating design work on projects.
A nationally-recognized Lean consultant will talk about successful experiences with Lean design across multiple clients and prospects.
Comparing/Contrasting the Lean design process - what does the real-world life of Lean Design as we know it today look like in terms of a step-by-step process? How have we implemented it in our practice and gained better results? What does the crystal ball of Lean Design hold for us in the future?
How can we best work with clients to help achieve their goals through Lean Design? We will discuss and answer questions on the use of mock-ups and other Lean tools to assist schematic design by firms who have used Lean effectively on projects and are willing to share their experiences - both successes and challenges.
