Planning and Urban Design at Farr Associates
Farr Associates, 53 West Jackson Boulevard, Suite 650
Douglas Farr, FAIA, founding principal and president of Farr Associates, will present his firm’s urban design and planning practice. Doug will begin with recent projects, including high-performing, sustainable, urban development projects, as well as recent implementation successes. He will then discuss preparations for the second edition of his book Sustainable Urbanism: Urban Design with Nature (2007).
Sustainable Urbanism is both an urgent call to action and a comprehensive introduction to “sustainable urbanism” –the emerging and growing design reform movement that combines the creation and enhancement of walkable and diverse places with high-performance infrastructure and buildings. Contribute to the 2nd Edition of Sustainable Urbanism, to be published in 2017, with your own best practices.
Speaker: Doug is a national leader in designing sustainable neighborhoods and buildings. His firm received the 2012 AIA Chicago Firm of the Year award, and he was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2014. Under his leadership, Farr Associates has designed and certified a total of seven LEED Platinum buildings, two of which also achieve net-zero energy, and four LEED-ND Developments. Doug was the founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED-ND Core Committee and is currently serving as the Chair of the Congress for the New Urbanism Executive Board.
