Session Details

Session 1: Insulation: Keeping Up with Everchanging Technology and Energy Codes

Speaker: Norbert V. Krogstad, AIA, WJE
Comments: Celeste Robbins, AIA, Robbins Architecture

Energy codes have evolved rapidly in recent years, and construction practices have had to respond. How have changing requirements affected renovation and new construction? How do you select the right insulation for either type of project? Norbert will cover the options, address specific situations, and help you decide the best approach for each project.

Session 2: Getting Started in Virtual Reality for Custom Residential Architecture

Speaker: Douglas Snider, AIA, LEED AP, Virtual Design and Construction Coordinator, Leopardo Companies, Inc.
Comments: Craig Cernek, AIA, LEED AP, ArchiBuild Group

Let’s get real – or at least help your clients understand the future reality of their new or renovated home. They know this technology exists, and they may expect you to use it. Doug will cover the types of virtual reality and how to integrate VR into the design process; hardware and software requirements; and best practices for VR presentations with clients.

Session 3: Are You Intrigued by the Mysteries of Residential Design-Build?

Speakers: Charlie Kaplan, LEED AP, and Jim True, GLUCK+; Amy Mangold, AIA, Scott Simpson Builders; Craig Cernek, AIA, LEED AP, ArchiBuild Group
Comments: Scott Crowe, AIA, Thomas Shafer Architects

Everyone has thought about being a design-builder, but what does it really take to become one? Our speakers will address the pros and cons, the how’s and why’s, of starting a design-build firm. What are the legal, financial, and insurance requirements? How did you build relationships with subcontractors? And of course, how do you insure good design and profitability?
