Thomas Kligerman - The New Shingled House

Pella Crafted Luxury showroom, Merchandise Mart, Suite 100

Thomas Kligerman will speak about the work of his firm Ike Kligerman Barkley (New York City and San Francisco). Copies of his new book, The New Shingled House, will be available for purchase and signing after the lecture.

Thomas Kligerman was raised in Connecticut and New Mexico, spending time as a student in France and England before receiving his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his Master of Architecture degree from Yale University. Before founding Ike Kligerman Barkley he worked for Robert A. M. Stern. With offices in New York and San Francisco, his inventive houses incorporate contemporary aspects of 20th century modernism with the forms and details of traditional residential architecture.

He has lectured widely about the work of his firm, about the cultural and architectural history of Cuba, about the influence of the Shingle Style in American architecture, and on the intersection of Modern and Traditional Architecture. He has been a guest lecturer at Harvard Graduate School of Design and is currently a Visiting Scholar at the American Academy in Rome. Tom serves on the boards of several charitable and educational institutions, including as serving as the President of the Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation. He is an avid sailor and races sailboats off the coast of Rhode Island.
