Tour: Nichols Tower at Homan Square (Original Sears Tower)
906 S. Homan Ave., Chicago, IL
The 2018 Community Interface Committee theme is Neighborhood Diversity. CIC will kick off the year with a tour of the Nichols Tower at Homan Square in Lawndale which was home to the Original Sears Tower since 1906. The 14-story Neo-Classical tower was part of the sprawling Sears, Roebuck & Co complex until they moved downtown in 1973. The Foundation for Homan Square’s recent renovation and restoration, completed in 2016, has transformed the tower into a new hub for arts and multi-media education, youth leadership development, job training, and urban farming on the City’s West Side. Join members of the Community Interface Committee for a tour lead by the North Lawndale Historical & Cultural Society to learn more about the history of the tower, its creative reuse, and the community of North Lawndale. After the tour, join members of CIC at the nearby Lagunitas Brewery (where you’re on your own for your bar bill) for a drink and continued socializing. Space is limited to 25 people.
