Virtual Prairie Grassroots Series: Bird-Safe State Buildings Act

Online

In the next several weeks, Illinois legislators will be considering a big new step in Illinois:HB 247, Bird-Safe State Buildings Act, which will require state buildings that are newly constructed or significantly altered to include bird-safe materials in their construction. Each year in Illinois we lose thousands of birds due to collisions.

This bill’s primary purpose is to reduce the number of bird strikes on state structures by incorporating bird-safe materials into the design and construction of buildings or alterations. Studies have shown that by implementing bird-friendly design parameters, collision deaths can be reduced by up to 90 percent. As building designers, architects are key to addressing and mitigating these issues. Please do not miss this important discussion and learn how to take action to help pass bird-friendly legislation at the state and federal level!
