At this SAIC event, hear Yolande Daniels, co-founding design principal of Studio SUMO in New York, recipient of various awards including theAmerican Academy of Arts and Letters Architecture Award, Emerging Voices Award, and Design Vanguard Award. Awards to projects include: International Architecture Award, Chicago Athenaeum; Iconic Architecture Award, German National Design Council; Architecture Award, New York Chapter AIA, New York State AIA; Architecture Merit Award, New York Chapter AIA; and Educational Facility Design Building Type Merit Award, New York Chapter AIA. studioSUMO has received grants from NYSCA/New York State Council on the Arts and NYFA/New York Foundation for the Arts, and was selected for the NYC Department of Design and Construction Design Excellence Program for small contracts.

Yolande Daniels is a visiting professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has taught architecture at the graduate level at Columbia University, University of Michigan, Pratt Institute, and City College CUNY. She held the Silcott Chair at Howard University and was interim director of the master of architecture program at Parsons School of Constructed Environments. She is a recipient of the Rome Prize in Architecture, fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and the Independent Study Program of the Whitney American Museum of Art in studio practice and cultural studies, and a travel grant from American Institute of Architects NY Chapter. She received architecture degrees from Columbia University and City College, CUNY.
