“The Chicago Architecture Center is proud to be working on this new initiative with AIA Chicago,” said CAC Interim CEO, Juanna Blackwell. “Chicagoans know their architecture and the People's Choice Award is sure to be a special honor for the winning projects.”
The restructured Design Excellence Awards recognize projects of all scales, from Architecture XS to XL, and Interior Architecture S to L. The Design Excellence Awards now include what in previous years were standalone Small Project Awards. The Roberta Feldman Architecture for Social Justice Award is administered by the AIA Chicago Foundation. The inaugural Lerch Bates People’s Choice Awards presented in partnership with the Chicago Architecture Center. Ralph Johnson, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal and Global Design Director of Perkins&Will, founded in Chicago, was honored during Designight 2022 with the 2022 AIA Chicago Lifetime Achievement Award.
“These projects exemplify the best of Chicago architecture,” said AIA Chicago President Drew Deering, AIA. “Chicago’s architects are designing elegant, equitable, and sustainable places in our hometown and across the world.”
Designight 2022 was a free event where everyone was welcome; all firms, clients, consultants, partners, friends, and family—and all Chicagoans with a penchant for great architectural design. Designight 2022 was hosted by architecture enthusiast Peter Sagal, of NPR’s Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!
