AIA Chicago sends letter to Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chief Sustainability Officer Angela Tovar on opening day of COP27

11.08.2022

On the opening day of the 2022 United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, AIA Chicago sent a letter to Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chief Sustainability Officer Angela Tovar, to urge them to continue our city’s commitment to and accelerate investments in the worldwide effort to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius, and preferably below 1.5 degrees Celsius.

We informed them that the American Institute of Architects is an NGO at COP27, and that our members are committed to working with governments at all levels to address urgent climate issues. All AIA components were asked to communicate with their local government leaders yesterday, to remind them of our shared goal of a better and more inclusive built environment that will sustain a healthy world.
