Joan Pomaranc, Hon. AIA Chicago, Awarded Distinguished Service Award

12.07.2021

Joan Pomaranc, Hon. AIA Chicago, Program Director at AIA Chicago, has been recognized by the organization as the 2021 Distinguished Service Award recipient.

Joan has been the program director at AIA Chicago since 1995, although her connection to AIA Chicago started in 1991 with the production of the first edition of the AIA Guide to Chicago. Working with members on programs from continuing education events to conferences and competitions is a large part of what she does. Joan also answers questions from members and the public, ranging from licensure matters to the history of buildings and Chicago architects, from “where can I find …” to “do you know someone who can …” She particularly likes keeping an eye out for new projects that can be turned into member tours.

Making connections between people is important to her, and that’s what associations are all about, so being at AIA Chicago has been ideal for her. In 2014, Joan was made a Honorary Member of AIA Chicago, a great honor in her life, and the Distinguished Service Award reflects her 26 years of exceptional, unwavering, and dedicated service to AIA Chicago, its members, the profession, and our city, as does her work on the fourth edition of the AIA Guide to Chicago, to be published in June 2022.

Congratulations, Joan!
