2030 Commitment for Small Firms: What, Why and How
AIA Chicago, 35 East Wacker Drive, #250, Chicago
You have a small (or very small) firm. Energy efficiency is important to you and your clients. You want to meet the AIA 2030 Commitment, but you're aren't sure what to do or how to do it. Nate Kipnis, FAIA, founding principal of Kipnis Architecture + Planning (Evanston), will explain what is the 2030 Commitment, why small firms should participate, and how to do it. Nate co-chairs the national AIA 2030 Working Group.
Since 2009, Kipnis Architecture + Planning (KAP) has been an advocate and practitioner of the 2030 Commitment. KAP provides energy modeling for significant projects in the office. The firm reports its design’s predicted Energy Use Intensity (pEUI) to the AIA 2030 Commitment and references its past work for ways to improve the energy efficiency of current designs.
Chyanne Husar, AIA, principal of HUS Architecture, will talk about how she has been learning the 2030 Commitment and incorporating it into her practice. Chyanne is past chair of national AIA's Small Firm Exchange (SFx).
The AIA 2030 Commitment is a national initiative to help firms evaluate the impact that design decisions have on a building’s energy performance, with the goal of producing net zero buildings by 2030. Check out AIA's annual 2030 by the Numbers to see how your peers are doing.
