Join for a spirited conversation about LGBTQI+ identity in the workplace, with opportunities to share your experiences and ideas for a more inclusive future.
As all industries face rapid changes to culture and demographics, design firms are challenged to respond with meaningful changes to equity, diversity and inclusion practices. During this event, learn from and engage with a diverse panel of designers, leaders, and policy influencers who are shaping firm culture across the country to be more inclusive of the LGBTQI+ community. Learn about the day-to-day experiences of LGBTQI+ designers, and find out how design firms can cultivate the community through visibility, culture, and inclusive and informed leadership.
Organized as part of the AIA’s "Embracing our Differences, Changing the World" speaker series, the event has been organized and supported by AIA national and was conceived by the AIA Chicago LGBTQI+ Alliance — the first AIA organization of its kind in the United States. The Alliance seeks to advance and advocate for LGBTQI+ designers through programming, educational opportunities, community involvement, and more.

AIA's “Embracing Our Differences. Changing the World” speaker series events launched in February, partnering with AIA Washington DC (AIADC), to explore the imperative of expanding diversity in the architecture profession. The second event that took place in April was organized in partnership with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and explored the topic of women in design. The AIA is committed to broadening equity, diversity and inclusion to create a stronger profession. To support that mission, AIA has developed a number of programs and resources.
