Architects in Schools Training Session and Sign-Up
Online
Become a mentor in the AIA Chicago Foundation's Architects in Schools (AIS) middle school program. Erin Sanchez and David Sikorkis, co-charis of the Community Engagement Committee will provide a curriculum overview, mentor roles, and teaching tips. This is mandatory for first time participants.
AIS is an initiative that brings architecture professionals into Chicago Public School classrooms to introduce middle school students to the field of architecture and to discuss the broader theme of architecture as a change-maker. It is a 8-week long program, with 4-6 practicing architect volunteers visiting a single classroom once a week for the duration of one class period (1.5-2 hours depending on school). The curriculum consists of an introduction to architecture and design, design exercises, field trips, and a final group project. Mentors are asked to make a minimum 3 session committment.
The program begins the week of September 19. We will be teaching in the schools listed below.
- Cameron Elementary School, 1234 N. Monticello (Humboldt Park)
- Whittier Dual Language Academy, 1900 W. 23rd St. (Back of the Yards)

The program is run by the Community Engagement Committee with support from the AIA Chicago Foundation.
