Architecture and music with the YAF

Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park

Architecture and music! The Young Architects Forum invites you relax in the park with a picnic and socializing at a 6:30 pm concert, one of the Millennium Park Summer Music Series. This exciting lineup of FREE outdoor concerts features a wide variety of genre-defying music from top local, national, and international artists, both established and emerging.

We will stake out a spot on the east side of the lawn, near the point where the lawn meets the concrete steps leading to the seating bowl. Look for the AIA Chicago sign. If you can’t find us, call Joan at 312/342-7135.

Bring a folding chair or ground cover, food, and beverage. Bring a friend, a colleague – or several of each. Everyone is welcome, and if you can't sign up in advance, just show up!

We will hear:

  • Jupiter Bokondji and his band Okwess (“food”) combine Afropop, traditional Congolese rhythms, funk and rock music. Their lyrics often carry political or social messages, including criticisms of the DRC government as well as positive encouragement for Africans to better realize their individual talent and potential. The band’s second album Kin Sonic transcends the Congo’s unexplored musical heritage and dives into a pool of modern sounds.
  • Noura Mint Seymali is a nationally beloved star in Mauritania and one of the foremost emissaries of modern Moorish music. Touring notable festivals and esteemed venues throughout the world, the griot vocalist and ardine (a type of harp) master merges the ancient musical traditions of Saharan and West Africa with a powerful, contemporary voice.

See you there!
