Business Law for Architects
The Kerryman Chicago Irish Bar & Restaurant, 661 North Clark Street
Lucas Fuksa and Lema Khorshid, partners in the law firm Fuksa Khorshid, LLC, will provide an overview of essential legal principles to help architects avoid common mistakes and practice with confidence and creativity while avoiding liability. We will discuss construction law topics including: the use of liens for professional services, employment contracts, and the role of subcontractors in construction.
We will focus on the architect’s integral role in shepherding projects from start to finish in the City of Chicago and provide guidance about the complicated web of licensing requirements for city projects, including dealings with the Department of Buildings and the specific building and license requirements for liquor-licensed establishments or businesses seeking special uses.
We will also explore key elements of intellectual property law and review your rights related to the creation, reproduction, and use of original drawings, specifications, and other work products. Finally, we will reveal important tips on how to limit legal and licensing expenses.
Participants will cover their own food and drink tab while learning about the legal aspects of architectural practice. Let the YAF know you'll be attending by registering at the YAF Meetup page.
