Canstruction Chicago is the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s largest single-day food drive, collecting roughly 100,000 pounds of food for local residents annually.
Want to learn more about getting involved with Canstruction Chicago? Join us at our open house as we kick off Chicago’s 12th annual design-build competition for AEC firms. It’s an opportunity for interested teams and participants to learn more about Canstruction and our annual fight against hunger. Meet the planning committee, network with potential teaming partners to start assembling a team, and talk with Canstruction veterans. All are welcome.
The informational meeting is open to all interested parties. Team applications are due by April 13, 2018. A formal kick-off meeting will be held on April 24th for all confirmed participating teams.
Build Night: Wednesday, August 15 // ChicagoCAN: Thursday, August 23 // DeCanstruction: Monday, September 10

Canstruction is a unique world-wide charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food. Canstruction Chicago is the local design/build event benefitting the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Teams comprised of professionals from the AEC industry fundraise for, design, and build structures composed of non-perishable food items. These "Cansculptures" are housed in the first floor of the Merchandise Mart and are on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. The "Cansculptures" are judged in various categories by a celebrity chef and prominent members of the AEC industry. Canstruction Chicago culminates in ChicagoCAN, an awards presentation and cocktail party that takes place in August at the Merchandise Mart.
