Culture and Urbanism Tour of Argyle

Wilson stop on the Red Line L

The Community Interface Committee continues their Neighborhood Diversity exploration in the Uptown neighborhood. This hour-long walking tour on and around Argyle Street will introduce you to the area's architectural legacy and innovations, its complex history, and the dynamics eroding its celebrated diversity. Learn about Chicago's first shared street, how the pan-Asian enclave along Argyle came to be, and the challenges of designing for diversity without commodifying culture. The tour will end at Miss Saigon, 1129 West Argyle Street, where we will enjoy delicious Vietnamese fare in a pay-your-own-way manner.

Vitaliy Vladimirov is an urban planner, artist, and immigrant. Recent projects include a pop-up museum gathering oral histories in Uptown, organizing walking tours in honor of Jane Jacobs’ legacy, plus planning zines, and mentoring youth about urban issues.

Tour is limited to 30 people. Preference given to AIA members.
