Design Chicago - Two Days of Residential Design

Merchandise Mart, Chicago

Join us for Design Chicago, the Midwest’s largest residential design conference, featuring two days of events about kitchen, bath, and home furnishings, intended for interior designers, architects and luxury custom-home builders. Plan your schedule and register now!

AIA Chicago is hosting two sessions on Thursday, October 3:

10:00 to 11:00 am at Pella Windows & Doors, Suite 100: Iconic House

For most of recorded history, the history of architecture has been the history of the house. Stuart Cohen, FAIA and Julie Hacker, FAIA (Stuart Cohen & Julie Hacker Architects), Doug Farr, FAIA (Farr Associates), and Scott Fortman, AIA (Gibbons Fortman) will discuss the houses that have most influenced their architectural thinking and their built work. The panel will be moderated by S. Claire Conroy, Editor in Chief of Residential Design magazine. Join us to hear about Iconic Houses that have widespread appeal based on culturally determined ideas and forms which they embody, idealize, and often transcend.

2:00 to 3:30 pm at Waterworks, Suite 136: Iconic Room

The rooms that move us the most as memorable experiences can be the conceptual starting points for interior architecture and design. Stuart Cohen, FAIA (Stuart Cohen & Julie Hacker Architects) will introduce the idea of an iconic room and three architects and interior designers will then make presentations discussing what they consider to be a room or space that has been influential in their work. They will then show examples of their current work and discuss the relationship between the two. Julie Hacker, FAIA will moderate a discussion with Margaret McCurry, FAIA, FIIDA (Tigerman McCurry Architects, Ltd.), Summer Thornton (Summer Thornton Design), and Vladimir Radutny AIA (Vladimir Radutny Architects).
