How to Build a House: Biennial Panel Discussion

Chicago Cultural Center, Claudia Cassidy Theater, 77 East Washington Street, Chicago

Please note the change in time: Doors at 5:30, program to begin at 6:00.

Like many other major cities across America, Chicago is in dire need of affordable housing. As the Disruptive Design competition addressed one slice of the need—affordable single-family or two-flat housing—the cost of creating single or multifamily affordable housing is rising every year. When wages cannot keep up with the cost of new homes, the term “affordable” becomes meaningless to the thousands of families seeking safe, comfortable places to live within their budget.

Join us for a panel of housing experts to learn more about why housing costs are high and rising; and, what architects, designers, developers, and politicians are doing to tackle the problem. Panelists include:

  • Ciere Boatright, VP of Real Estate & Inclusion, CNI Group
  • David Block, AIA, AICP, Director of Development, Evergreen Real Estate
  • Jaime Torres, AIA, Founder/Principal, Canopy Architecture & Urban Design
  • RaMona Westbrook, AIA, Founder/Principal, Brook Architecture
  • Moderator: Kristin Faust, President, Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, Inc.

These individuals will share their thoughts on policies, connecting with communities, and design innovation that creates beautiful, affordable housing for all. Presented in conjunction with the Chicago Architecture Biennial.
