Briefing on the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA)
The Gage, 24 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago - and online
The $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) creates a once-in-ageneration opportunity to invest in roads, bridges, rails, and water infrastructure. Northeastern Illinois soon will start seeing millions of dollars that can go toward building a more resilient future. Join us for a presentation with Erin Aleman, Executive Director of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), who will share more about IIJA, what it means for the region, and how communities can compete for IIJA’s many funding opportunities.
Online presentation: APWA is very interested in providing IIJA information to communities and public works staff in underserved and underfunded communities. If you wish to convene a group at one location to watch Ms. Aleman’s remarks, APWA wants to help you. Contact John Mick II, PE, APWA City Branch Education Chair, at (312) 505-1149 to discuss this extra outreach.
- In-person event: $60 for lunch and presentation (cash bar)

Speaker: Erin Aleman is Executive Director of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP). Appointed in June 2019, Aleman oversees an agency that employs more than 100 staff members who develop and implement recommendations in ON TO 2050, the long-range plan for northeastern Illinois. Aleman has more than 15 years of experience with developing transportation and landuse policies. She began her career at CMAP before moving to the Illinois Department of Transportation, first as a Bureau Chief and then Director of Office of Planning and Programming. In addition to being the first woman to serve as CMAP’s Executive Director, Aleman is also first professional planner to lead the agency. Crain’s Chicago Business recognized Aleman’s accomplishments by naming her to its 2019 “40 Under 40” list.
