Why do you need practice insurance? Do you really understand your coverage? Professional Liability is arguably the greatest exposure of any design professional firm, and there are critical risk management practices every design professional should be aware of in order to effectively mitigate their firm’s risk against costly claims and client disputes. Dan Buelow, Managing Director for the Architects and Engineers Practice at Willis A&E, will identify current claim trends and practical measures firms can take to reduce their exposures; discuss types of damages by category of project type and discipline; and provide an analysis of non-technical contributors to risk exposure for designers, including contracts, client selection, and team capabilities. Willis A&E is the specialty division of Willis Towers Watson that is exclusively dedicated to providing insurance and risk management solutions to over 600 architect and engineering firms across North America.
Dan will review types of damages by category of project type and discipline; provide an analysis of non-technical contributors to risk exposure for designers, including contracts, client selection, and team capabilities. He will also include an in-depth review of the standard of care; effective documentation practices (including what not to put in an email – or video chat!) - and the role and risks of the design professional in construction administration.
This is an excellent primer for all levels of staff for any design firm as it reviews critical issues associated with the standard of care, communications, documentation, construction administration and managing client expectations.
