Meeting the Carbon Challenge with Climate Specific Passive Building Standards
Cannon Design, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1100
Katrin Klingenberg, co-founder and executive director of the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS), will focus on the importance of accurate climate specific design guidelines to facilitate dialing in the energy efficiency of the building envelope for large scale buildings in the most cost effective manner. Critical envelope details for large scale multifamily and commercial case studies will be discussed. The case studies will make the case that the technology to reach ambitious passive building standards for large buildings is available and economically feasible to apply today. The presentation will includes case studies of several ‘next generation’ buildings that are already here.
Learning Objectives:
-- Climate specific cost optimized passive building standards
-- Envelope requirements for large buildings to meet the standard
-- Special aspects/details of the envelope design that are critical to meeting the standards
-- Case studies that showcase learning objectives 1-3 throughout different building typologies
