Passive House Overview: New climate-specific energy standards & recent multifamily work in the U.S.

AIA Chicago, 35 East Wacker Drive, #250

Tom Bassett-Dilley, AIA, president of the Passive House Alliance Chicago, will present on an important new development in low-energy design and construction: adaptation of the Passive House standard to take into account a broad range of climate conditions and construction expectations. This work is the result of a joint study between Building Science Corporation and Passive House Institute US.  Previously a “one size fits all” standard, the newly adapted standard takes into account widely varying humidity, heating, and cooling demand/load seen across the climate zones of North America. This approach promises to establish a global blueprint for efficiency in building, with cost-effectiveness and building science as guiding principles.

There will also be a review of the many recent and current multifamily projects across the US.
