The Education KC continues to examine the latest trends in campus planning, capital project funding, and creation of novel learning environment typologies. Join us for a building tour and a review of the emerging trend toward “live-learn” educational eco-systems, and the opportunities and challenges of funding and designing academic campus projects using public/private partnership model. The Academic and Residential Complex (ARC) is a new mixed-use building designed by SCB that is composed of a two-story academic classroom building and a ten-story, 550-bed, undergraduate residence hall. The design aims to extend the learning environment into the living environment; create active learning environments of various scales; make learning spaces and amenities highly visible at the ground floor; expand programming opportunities to include outdoor spaces; reinforce connections along primary campus paths; and encourage faculty-student interactions.

Location: the ARC is located on Harrison Street between Morgan and Peoria streets, right off the UIC Halsted blue line stop. We will meet in Room 137 (a large classroom located by the main doors to the academic side of the building).
