Research, Development and Innovation in Smart Cities in Europe

The Italian American Chamber of Commerce-Chicago and AIA Chicago invite you to hear about European approaches to research, development, and innovation in Smart Cities synergies.
Our speaker will be Paola Clerici Maestosi, researcher at ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development).
Paola serves as:
-- Vice-chair for Joint Programming Initiative, Urban Europe Research Alliance
-- Co-coordinator for European Energy Research Alliance, Sub Programme 3, Energy-efficient Interactive Building Joint Program on Smart Cities
Research, development, and innovation are core activities for ENEA which is based in Rome and the Lazio Region in Italy. ENEA has developed in the last five years both top-down and bottom-up approaches to facilitate and boost development and innovation of technologies and solution for smart cities. ENEA has highlighted several solutions (smart lighting, smart street, smart node, smart district, participatory approach, SUN – social urban networks…) to facilitate the transition of Italian cities towards the smart city concept.
The value of the ENEA approach is its focus on solutions, a well-balanced mix of innovative integrated technologies, a business model, and citizen engagement, all of which represent a real opportunity for city authorities to face grand European Urban Challenges: aging populations, migration, climate change, congestion, social unrest, segregation, debt crisis, and peak oil prices.
Lunch (with wine!) will be provided by the Italian American Chamber of Commerce-Chicago.
