Self-Advocating: The Missing Soft Skills of Architecture

Online

"Professionalism" is a broad term that encompasses numerous soft skills, yet many professionals-- emerging or fully emerged-- struggle to understand what they entail, and why they are so highly prized by employers. In this workshop, led by YAF co-chair Justin Banda, Assoc. AIA (Legat Architects), attendees will work to uncover their inherent leadership traits such as management, team spirit, initiative, and presentation skills, and how to apply them to real-world office situations. Learn about the traits of an ideal team player and prepare to become one in your workplace.

  • Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to identify a variety of soft skills and be able to differentiate them from hard skills as they relate to the AEC industry.
  • Upon completion of this session, participants will utilize the DiSC method to identify their own personality drivers and establish clear lines of communication with their teams.
  • Upon completion of this session, participants will understand the dichotomy of the "ideal team player" in the context of humble, hungry, and smart co-working and project management.
  • Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to analyze and transcend difficult interpersonal situations in the workplace by identifying potential personality stumbling blocks and heading them off early.

A handout will be sent to attendees on registration.
