The 606 Opening Day Walking Tour

Western Trailhead Garden on North Ridgeway Avenue

AIA Chicago, ILASLA, SEAOI, and Ross Barney Architects invite you for a walking tour on the opening day of Chicago’s next great urban park and trail. With over 2.7 miles of recreational space, the 606 (Bloomingdale Trail) connects four neighborhoods by passing over heavily trafficked streets. At 17 feet above the street, the trail provides a different perspective on the city, to which it is also connected with ramps and additional parks, part of the larger 606. Join fellow architects, landscape architects, and engineers to discuss the success and impact of the trail all while taking in the sights and sounds as one of its first visitors. Opening day has been organized by Friends of the 606 as a series of processions, of which this tour will be a part.

Ross Barney Architects was the architectural designer on the team that developed the Bloomingdale Trail (now 606) Framework Plan, which was led by Arup and included Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, AAA Engineering, Burns & McDonnell, Chicago Public Art Group, Dynasty Group, O-H Community Partners, O’Brien Engineering, and Neal & Leroy.

Meeting Location: Western Trailhead Garden on North Ridgeway Avenue (Ridgeway & Cortland) @ 11:00 AM (walking tour will end @ Walsh Playground Park on North Marshfield Avenue).
