The Future in High Performance Enclosures: 12th Annual Building Envelope Event
Maggiano’s, 516 North Clark Street, Chicago
Join members of the design and construction community and John Straube, Ph.D., P.Eng., principal at Building Science Consulting Inc. (Waterloo, Ontario), as he shares his knowledge and envisions where building enclosure technology is headed. His presentation will overview the status of building enclosure technology; review how we are currently designing our buildings and, why we think we are doing proper design. The presentation will also provide a primer on getting the basics right including the science behind building technology and how it affects the building enclosure system.
John will discuss the "priorities of high performance" and what we need to balance the aesthetics of design while maintaining a high performance building envelope. How much insulation is required? How important are the building's air seals? What is the role of thermal bridging? How much glazing can we accommodate and maintain energy efficient buildings?
Also included is a discussion of current research and its implications for the future of building enclosures. What methods and tools are being used to provide a better understanding as to how buildings will perform? What are some of the new enclosure systems that are being developed to build more energy efficient and better performing buildings?
Two time options, both at Maggiano's at Clark St. and Grand Ave.:
