The Role of Energy Modeling in the A/E Industry

AIA Chicago, 35 East Wacker Drive, #250

Last July, AIA published 2030 by the numbers: The 2016 summary of the AIA 2030 commitment. The report concludes that energy modeling is key to reaching our Architecture 2030 goals: “Our numbers continue to demonstrate that energy modeling is an essential component of success. The numbers also indicate that we must better understand the strategies, tools, and resources necessary to integrate energy modeling into the design culture of architecture firms."

Please join AIA Chicago's Environment KC, 2030 Working Group, and the Chicago Chapter of the International Building Performance Simulation Association-USA (ChiBPSA) for a panel discussion during which we will attempt to answer some of the tough questions on this topic:

  • What is the role of energy modeling in the design process?
  • How is Energy Modeling being incorporated into the design process?
  • Why is Energy Modeling key to reaching our Architecture 2030 Goals?
  • Who should be doing the Energy Modeling?

Our speakers:

  • Arathi Gowda, AIA, AICP, LEED AP BD+C, Skidmore Owings and Merrill LLP; AIA Chicago 2030 Working Group
  • Scott Farbman, AIA, LEED BD+C, db|HMS; AIA Chicago 2030 Working Group
  • Shona O'Dea, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, DLR Group; president of ChiBPSA
  • Tommy Zakrzewski, PhD, BEMP, CEM, CMVP, LEED AP BD+C O+M; Director of Integrative Energy Engineering, HKS, Inc.
  • You the community!
