The Watergate Legacy: Lessons from the Italian March on America’s Capital City

Ciao Chicago, 1656 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago

The Watergate in Washington, DC, is a midcentury masterpiece that became synonymous with scandal. But the building’s fascinating history includes more than a break-in. Join us as we learn more about the decision to build one of America’s first “mixed use” projects in the national capital; the vision behind the Italian architect’s dramatic design; and the intense battles with federal and local officials over key permits, which were nearly derailed by the revelation of a controversial financial partner.

The conversation features Joseph Rodota, the California-based author of THE WATERGATE: Inside America’s Most Infamous Address; Daniel Welborn, AIA, principal at The Gettys Group, bringing over twenty years of practice in Architecture and Interior Design and a comprehensive understanding of the hospitality industry; and Jerry Ong, principal at Jupiter Realty Co., bringing international commercial real estate acquisition and development experience focusing on the acquisition and development of commercial real estate projects throughout the United States.
