Tour: Ed Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation and Tech Entrepreneurship at IIT - FULL!

Between Dearborn and Federal at extension of 32nd Street, immediately north of Hermann Hall

Sorry - no more reservations.

With a focus on innovative thinking and transitioning new ideas into products and processes, the Kaplan Institute will house unique facilities and equipment for implementing novel, educational, and entrepreneurial strategies. The design features technologically advanced building materials and systems and adds to the legacy of the university’s iconic campus designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The building will provide flexibility and adaptable teaching space for Illinois Tech’s project-based, and undergraduate interdisciplinary courses. It will be the new home of the Institute of Design, and ID’s pioneering design thinking will be incorporated into courses taught here. John Ronan, FAIA, founder of John Ronan Architects, designed the Institute and will lead our tour. Shepley Bulfinch is the programming architect for the Institute.

Important notes: Meet at the Power Construction trailer on the west side of the building (Federal Street). The tour will start at 2:45 pm with the signing of waivers. The tour will begin promptly at 3:00 and conclude at 4:00 pm. Because this is an active construction site, sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. Hard hats will be provided on site.
