Tour: Northeastern Illinois University El Centro Campus
3390 North Avondale Avenue, Chicago IL (3rd Floor)
Join us for a tour of one of the most talked about and highly visible new projects in Chicago. The Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) El Centro campus is the first component in a satellite campus master plan and is designed to proudly celebrate the past, present and future of NEIU. The building is boldly located adjacent to a primary thoroughfare into downtown Chicago, and is specifically intended to draw attention to itself as more than 500,000 commuters will be greeted by its façade on a daily basis. Envisioned by NEIU to provide educational, career and cultural opportunities—primarily to the Latino community of Chicago—the El Centro campus seeks to revitalize this large swath of primarily industrial land bordered by Kimball Avenue, the Union Pacific/Northwest Metra line, and the 90/94 expressway, while serving as a catalyst for further development in the area. The tour will be led by JGMA founder and president Juan Moreno, AIA along with design team members Michael Cady, AIA; Kevin Meyer, Assoc. AIA; and Cosmin Vrajitoru, AIA.
*Attendees will meet on the 3rd floor for a presentation from the design team followed by a guided tour of the building.
