Tour: Preservation and Revitalization at Historic Julia C. Lathrop Homes - FULL!
West Parking Lot at Lathrop Administration Building, 2000 West Diversey Parkway, Chicago
This event is full, and a waiting list has been started.
Julia C. Lathrop Homes was originally constructed in 1938 as a New Deal model for public housing, designed by a “dream team” of Depression-era Chicago architects and planners. Today, Lathrop is undergoing a multi-phase transformation into a new mixed income residential and commercial community.
Attendees will visit Lathrop’s recently-rehabbed North Campus including the original Administration Building, updated apartment buildings and rowhouses, Prairie style landscape architect Jens Jensen’s Great Lawn, and the soon-to-be-activated riverfront.
Members of Lathrop’s redevelopment team from Related Midwest and MacRostie Historic Advisors will discuss the site’s rich history, the ongoing revitalization, and historic incentives that have helped make the project possible.
Presenters:
- John Cramer, Assoc.AIA, Senior Associate, MacRostie Historic Advisors
- Will Tippens, Vice President, Design and Architecture, Related Midwest
- Jacques Sandberg, Vice President, Affordable Housing, Related Midwest
- Sarah Wick, Senior Project Manager, Related Midwest
- Molly Kinsella, Project Manager, Related Midwest
